WE WILL NEVER FORGET 9/11

September 11th, 2007, will mark the 6th anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks. Cities all over the country are commemorating this day by giving tribute to the many that lost their lives on this fateful day. Here are some events that will be happening in the Dallas, San Antonio and Austin areas of Texas for September 11th, 2007:

Austin- Truth Now TRUTH ACTION and Memorial Event
The Austin 9/11 Truth Now TRUTH ACTION and Memorial event at the Texas State Capitol on the morning of September 11, beginning at 8:30 is a great way to commemorate this day in the Austin area. They will hold a memorial vigil for the victims of the attacks and also will set up a table with signs, informational handouts, photographs and DVD's for the students, faculty and staff. The plan is to remain as silent as possible for the duration of the time that the attacks in New York took place. You can find more information on the Truth Now website.

McKinney - 9/11 Memorial
If you live in or will be in the McKinney area on September 11th, you can stop by the McKinney 9/11 Memorial. This event will begin at 9a.m. at the McKinney Public Safety Building which is found on Taylor-Burk Drive. McKinney Police Chief Doug Kowalski, McKinney Fire Chief Mark Wallace and Mayor Pro Tem Thad Helsley will give speeches at the memorial ceremony. There will also be bagpipers and a 21-gun salute.

San Antonio - 9/11 Keeping Faith, Keeping Freedom Commemoration
If you will be further south in San Antonio, this big city also has plans for several memorial events on 9/11. Part of the commemoration on this special day will include the reading of the names of the 9/11 victims in individual religious organizations and schools throughout the city. In addition, to honor the 2,996 lives that was lost on this fateful day 6 years ago, the city of San Antonio is going to hold it's first annual "9/11 Keeping Faith, Keeping Freedom" interfaith/ecumenical services. Religious and civic leaders of many walks of life and varying faiths of San Antonio will host this event. Leading the event are San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger and Rabbi Aryeh Scheinberg from Congregation Rodfei Sholom. Prayer services are also being held in the week leading up to September 11th at churches, mosques, schools and synagogues across the city. To be sure that each name is read individually and given the person attention that such a tragedy deserves, each institution holding a ceremony will be given the names of 30 victims of 9/11 to read aloud. Across the city of San Antonio, all the names will be read.

Taylor, Texas - 9/11 Parade and Program
Taylor, Texas will hold a 9/11 Parade and Program beginning at 10:00 am at Heritage Square in downtown Taylor. This event is sponsored by Taylor Firefighters Association. Contact Matthew Whisenant for more information.

Tyler -- Safer, More Compassionate World Forum
The city of Tyler will also hold a September 11th ceremony. Our Voices Together with the League of Women Voters of Tyler/Smith County will host a Safer, More Compassionate World Forum at the University Center of the University of Texas at Tyler. At this event a special panel will converge and discuss how citizens can respond to terrorism with positive actions. This panel will include Becky Ramon, nondenominational minister from the Dallas Peace Center; Hannah Walker, Director of Family Services, Habitat for Humanity; and will be moderated by Dr. Robert Sterken.
